FORESTRY & ARBORICULTURE | COMBINED CHAINSAW MAINTENANCE & CROSSCUTTING AND FELLING & PROCESSING TREES UP TO 380MM TRAINING COURSE
5 Day training followed by half day City & Guilds NPTC assessment.
A combined Training course covering NPTC assessments, suited for novice operators who are required to maintain and operate chainsaws for crosscutting and will involve felling small trees of diameter between 8” and 15” safely and accurately, removing branches, crosscutting stems, stacking timber and taking down hung-up trees with hand tools. Our combined Training course allows operators to seamlessly continue their training in Felling & Processing Trees up to 380mm. This course prepares the candidates to take an assessment for NPTC Level 2 Units 201 & 202 and 203 or formerly known as CS30 and CS31.

- HSE legislation and safety guidelines
- Overview of the chainsaw and maintenance equipment
- Maintaining the saw chain
- Maintaining the guide bar
- Power unit maintenance
- Starting the chainsaw and pre-cutting tests
- Cross-cutting timber
UPON COMPLETION OF THE COMBINED CHAINSAW MAINTENANCE & CROSSCUTTING AND FELLING & PROCESSING TREES UP TO 380MM TRAINING COURSE YOU’LL BE ABLE TO:
- Identify the risk assessment and Emergency procedures on a work site
- Select and prepare equipment required for safe and effective felling.
- Fell small trees safely and accurately using an appropriate method
- Fell leaning trees using a safe technique
- Remove branches safely in a manner appropriate to the branching habit
- Crosscut stems accurately and safely to a given length and diameter
- Stack timber using appropriate manual handling techniques
- Take down small hung up trees safely using appropriate hand tools
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR THE COMBINED CHAINSAW MAINTENANCE & CROSSCUTTING AND FELLING & PROCESSING TREES UP TO 380MM
- Chainsaw boots (EN 17249), Chainsaw gloves (EN 381-7), Chainsaw helmet with visor and ear muffs (EN 397/14052/12492)
- Chainsaw trousers (all round protection is preferred – Type C (EN 381-5)
- Personal First Aid Kit
- A waterproof coat and over-trousers (course will continue even in rain)
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR THE COMBINED CHAINSAW MAINTENANCE & CROSSCUTTING AND FELLING & PROCESSING TREES UP TO 380MM
- Serviceable chainsaw, chain with cutters of sufficient length to allow for sharpening (recommended 15 inch guide bar)
- Combination spanner, Guide bar scraper, Round file of appropriate size with handle for sharpening chain
- File guide (roller or other), Flat file with handle for depth gauges, Depth gauge setting tool, Clean brush for air filter cleaning
- Chain oil and Fuel
- Felling bar, Wedge, Lifting tongs / hooks, tape measure for measuring timber
